Kyra and Efi,

I just wanted to reach out and say thank you SO much for hosting such a great childbirth class. I gave birth on Monday and feel like I was able to do it the way that I wanted because I was so well educated and as prepared as one could be for that, thanks to the both of you!

I went into the hospital already 5cm dilated and was able to deliver without an epidural.

Comment:  I can highly recommend our wonderful, knowledgeable, patient yet firm (believe me, that will be helpful at some point!) doula Kyra Caruso who helped me give a natural birth at NYU - including turning our little one in the womb two hours before he was born which prevented a medical intervention and more hours of painful back labor. A loving husband/partner at your side is great, but without Kyra I would not have had enough strength or courage for this - well yeah - labor of love. I consider Kyra a friend and part of the family now. I attended her WalkTalkYoga sessions in Prospect Park a few months before which was tremendously helpful in getting to know each other (personalities, pregnancy issues, birth plan), which I can highly recommend as preparation both mentally, physically and bonding-wise - and for a few peaceful weekend hours in the park fully focusing on your body and baby. (Partners are welcome to join!)

Comment:  Just wanted to contribute a second enthusiastic vote for Kyra Caruso! She was absolutely the best in every way and I agree she is part of our family now. She will make sure your wishes are respected and is just the most amazing person with a calm yet assertive energy. Good luck with your delivery!

Comment: We loved our doula Kyra - she is in her mid-30s, warm yet assertive if needed and very intuitive. With her, I managed 15 hours of labor (my first baby, born June 30th at NYU) including intense back labor and having to turn him 12 hours in. Yet we had - as hoped for - a natural birth.  While my husband did his best, he did not know what to do, put his hands at the wrong spots etc.. Kyra never left my side and even got soaked under the shower with me because I did not want to be without her for even a single minute. (Ok, she had a snack break in between, I think.)  She also hosts a WalkTalkYoga class every Saturday, 9am in Prospect Park. Thanks to the regular practice (and you still have a few weeks time to go!), she got to know my body and personality, which helped tremendously during labor. She knows where and where not to touch/press/massage for pain relief and recently took additional classes in acupressure. I cannot recommend her high enough, we loved the experience with her, will without doubt book her again and kind of consider her part of our family now!

Comment:  We just had our little one in December, and Kyra was incredible. She has lovely, soothing energy and a very calming presence, and she is very attuned to your needs. She was amazing before the birth - she is absolutely passionate about what she does, and she wanted to be as involved as we were willing to let her - she came to our house for one of our midwife visits to meet the midwife (we planned a homebirth), and she also came with me, twice, to imagery work sessions with another provider so that she could be on top of our plans and able to support me in the ways I needed during labor. We ended up with a homebirth cesarean - a homebirth that ends in a transfer and cesarean - and not only did she stick with us and offer phenomenal support during our 12+ hours at home (physical/emotional as well as making sure I was fed and hydrated, and she took pictures as well), she also drove our car all the way out to the transfer hospital on Long Island so that my husband could ride with me in the midwife's car and we'd have our car available to us later! She stayed with us in the hospital until we went into the operating room.  Since she's just completed her certification, she's more affordable right now (although it's only becoming 'official' on paper, she's actually quite experienced - she's attended births both at home and in hospitals, and has been apprenticing with a very experienced doula). I highly recommend meeting with her to see if you're a fit!

I can highly recommend our wonderful, knowledgeable, patient yet firm (believe me, that will be helpful at some point!) doula Kyra Caruso who helped me give a natural birth at NYU in June 2014 - including turning our little one in the womb two hours before he was born which prevented a medical intervention and more hours of painful back labor. A loving husband/partner at your side is great, but without Kyra I would not have had enough strength or courage for this - well yeah - labor of love. I attended her WalkTalkYoga sessions in Prospect Park a few months before my due date which was tremendously helpful in getting to know each other (personalities, pregnancy issues, birth plan) and allows for a few peaceful weekend hours in the park fully focusing on your body and baby. Kyra was amazing!!! We met with Kyra a few times before I went into labor and even then we appreciated that she was equal parts calm and assertive. We felt confident that she could help support both my husband and I during our labor and she did not disappoint us. My water broke late at night and one phone call and a quick cab ride later, she was at our apartment and helped get us to the hospital. At the hospital she truly took charge and helped me communicate effectively with the nurses. When I wanted to veer from my birth plan she made sure it was possible and never second guessed my decisions. She made me feel like I was still in control during a time that was truthfully pretty terrifying. Especially after my husband fainted and the room became even more chaotic! I felt like she had both the medical knowledge and experience to guide us through to delivery regardless of whatever arose, and she delivered in every capacity. Additionally, she offered to take a few pictures for us with my camera and captured a priceless shot of our new family of three that is my favorite picture ever.

I wish I could explain in words how integral she was to our child's birth. Our son just celebrated his first birthday and we have stayed close to Kyra over the past year, it feels like she has become a part of our family. We love her and I am so blessed and grateful she is a part of our lives. I hope I am lucky enough to have her beside us if we expand our family in the future!

Kyra is dedicated, caring and passionate - all great characteristics for a doula helping new mothers on the journey through pregnancy, labor and delivery and post partum.  My pregnancy ended with a breech baby requiring C-section so I did not have opportunity to experience Kyra's support during a vaginal labor/delivery.  But in the weeks prior to giving birth Kyra was very helpful and supportive.  She provided both me and my partner with helpful information and support, went out of her way to make home visits to help us prepare for the birth and checked in periodically via email.  Even after the baby was born, Kyra came by for a home visit to see me and the baby.  When I had  issues with breastfeeding, Kyra responded quickly referring me to the local La Leche League chapter, resulting in much needed advice and a home visit from a lactation consultant.  All in all she is responsive and committed and genuinely inspired to support birth and motherhood.

Look no further - if Kyra is available for your EDD, call her!  Kyra offers phenomenal doula support.  We liked her the moment we met her - she has a calm and gentle spirit, and exudes warmth with her huge smile - and she turned out to offer all of those qualities and more during our homebirth (which ended in a hospital transfer and cesarean).  We were extremely impressed with her commitment even prior to the birth - she is passionate about  her work, and she wanted to be as involved as we wanted her to be.  She came to our house during one of our midwife's visits so that she could meet the midwife, and she also came with me to several imagery work sessions so that she could learn the exercises I planned to use while laboring and thus support me in the ways I needed during the birth.  During the actual birth, she offered a very calming presence, and was extremely attuned to my needs. She offered constant  physical and verbal reminders to ground and center me, and reminded me of the imagery work she'd learned in our sessions (which I completely forgot once labor began, so I really appreciated that)!  Not only did she support me wonderfully during our 12+ hours at home - also making sure I was fed and hydrated, and taking some pictures - she also drove our car all the way out to the transfer hospital on Long Island so that my husband could ride with me in the midwife's car, and then she took car service home, so we'd have our car available to us later on (naturally we paid for that, but I was so impressed at her willingness to go so far out of her way)!  She also stayed with me in the hospital right up until we went into the operating room.  And she made sure I knew I did a great job.  :)  Kyra loves and is absolutely committed to what she does, and I am sure she will have a long and wonderful career supporting women on this sacred path!

I wanted to own my first birth experience as much as possible and Kyra helped me achieve the level of organization that I wanted. She rubbed my back when I needed to rest, she got me moving when I needed to move and she wiped the sweat from my forehead during the most trying times in my labor. Kyra's support was truly invaluable.
